Re: Rising Stars - Battle of The Bands - Round 3 Sunday 2nd Mar
just to clarify...
the only person on this forum representing T alan atm is me.
If M.E.M got more votes, they earned those votes, whether through their performance, their promotion, their personalities, their looks.. who knows. We didn't manage to bring anyone to that gig, obviously we tried but we couldn't find anyone who could get down to Ashford from Medway on mothers day.
We had a great time playing and watching the other bands and just generally sorta running round and jumping on each other and thats all we went for. We met some new people and spread our music a bit, we had a good time and we went home.
If we had gone through then excellent but it doesn't matter.
they won, and thats great, its a great opportunity for them, its hard for young bands to get gigs, we know, we've been doing this since we were about 12 and its hard work.
It's not to do with age or gender, it's about who on the night turned up and got the most votes.
Bringing more people to your gig isn't cheating, it's good promotion. I'm sure if we'd had the gig in Gillingham the results would have been completely different because us and Fatal Fools are sure to know a lot more people and will get more people to turn up.
and i'd hope that the audience were able to judge bands purely on their performance...
sorry for the essay.

yeah
the thing about botbs is that really they are usually just popularity contests, i guess because of the point system it makes it a lot fairer. but at the end of the day the people who win are probably gonna be the ones who bring the most people.

Re: Rising Stars - Battle of The Bands - Round 3 Sunday 2nd Mar
There's is no completely neutral way of doing it, unless you could gaurentee that every audience member voting was a stranger to the bands, which ain't gonna happen lol. If you have a judging panel as I've experienced in BOTB contests before, they're more likely to put through a band of the genre of music they like. Having a points system is probably the fairest way possible, yea location maybe an issue in terms of getting your mates there, so if that's the case, just put on the best show you can and try and get those 2nd/3rd place points.
End of the day if you play well but don't get through, so what? You may have made a few more fans, exposed a few more people to your music and had the enjoyment of performing.

thats what i just said... =S
were you agreeing with me?
im not complaining that we didn't win at all, i'm saying the bands that went through deserved to go through for one reason or another and thats all...

i didn't really 'know' any of the bands so just voted on their merits.... m.e.m for their potential and their funkiness... t-alan because they were damned cool.... and shock treatment coz they were slightly different to the other bands

I'm coming into this conversation way too late but hooray for boobs!
Well done to all of the bands! In a way we're all winners (unless you are a member of one of the 5 bands that didn't win, in which case we're all losers)! BOTB's are usually quite bitchy coz everyone is competitive but everybody was up for a laugh at this one!!
Love you!
Ollie (from that band that came 5th!)
p.s. Weren't Tyrannasaurus Alan quite good!!

MUHAHAHA!
And, again, I know this comment is a little bit late but it was never going to be about who won. Just play a good gig and hope people like you so you get more fans!
WOOP!
Love you!
